All over the place...

That's where I've been, sewing wise. DD's jacket, a dress for her as well, BWOF 11-2008-111, which is almost done. And this dress that I decided it was time to make.

Check out my shoes and nails - gotta bring the dress little more into the summer :))

And about the fabric from NY Fashion Center; it arrived the day before yesterday. Almost one month... I'm not sure I love it either. The color is more fuchsia than carmine. It's called silk zibeline and is very crisp, similar to duchess satin but with more of a twill weave. I think it will work for the vintage suit, but now I have plenty of time to decide :)) Bye bye contest, maybe next year.

------------

Thank you for all your praise of DD's jacket. She loves it and will send me a picture of her wearing it. If you go back and read the comments you will find that she actually left me one -a first for her. So proud of you, darling :)) She told me she's even linking to my blog from her Facebook page...

------------

And the coat... well it's still missing two buttonholes. I'm planning to take it to Warren's - the coat is too nice to fool with a silly buttonhole lever!

  3. I really love this dress. It looks so easy to wear. I hear ya on the v-neck (as mentioned in your review). I've only recently decided that they looked good on me as I've gained a few lbs, some in an area that is actually pleasing ;). Shoes are TDF!

  9. What a fun way to colorize and summerize your black dress, which looks great BTW.
The zibilene, is it the color or the texture that you're not thrilled with?
I've been very happy with the quality of the fabrics from NYCFC, but the colors on their website are so off that I won't order without swatching first.
I'm thinking I'm going to swatch some of the silk faille, but maybe, by your description, I should also swatch the zibilene. Can't wait to see what you do with it.

  11. Birgitte, I am so late in commenting your post. I also noticed I miss a another post before this one ;-). Once again you teach me something. I did not know we could dye synthetics at home. I will try to find this type of dyes in Montreal. For natural fabric, I use china ink to get a pure and deep black... but I have to rinse and rinse and rinse and final rinse with salt water to fix it. Have you ever looked at Paul-Andre's blog on fabric treatment ... he is hot http://estampa-paulandre.blogspot.com/ I have a feeling you might have affinities with his fabric technics. He also draws the most amazing fashion designs http://paulandredesign.blogspot.com/. So this dress fall like water over a smooth rock. I love your toes. They are like summer candies. And those sandals, I would need you to teach me how to walk with them. Like Kay Y said... be careful. Wonderful look realy... your soul mate must be so proud to walk with such a wonderfully and originally dressed woman. Anne from Montreal where spring finally arrived

  12. Talk about a first class moonstruck person... talking about myself. I read your message one day, read your review on PR another day and left a message on your blog two days later... The result I am asking you how to dye synthetic, when you used silk :-( Sorry about that. Anne
