HOLLYWOOD: GET A GRIP

This is an unusual post and I apologize in advance. But I have to speak my mind because I am simply enraged.
Certain people of the Hollywood elite has apparently decided that a crime is not a crime when the person charged is a talented member of their inner circle.

In yesterday's Los Angeles Times, Steve Lopez wrote a piece, which included part of the 13 year-old girl's testimony.
It will make your heart drop.
That is, if you have a heart.
And maybe, a daughter.

  1. Parent of a teenage daughter and aunt to teenage nieces here, so I am absolutely with you on this one.

  2. Good for you, Birgitte. I've become increasingly horrified as I've watched this unfold and am struggling to understand how anyone could defend him. Many people whose work I admire have signed the petition, but I think what they've done is shameful.

  3. Amen.

And I have a 13yo DD. I imagine I would feel the same regardless, though.

  4. Unbelieveable. Thanks for the post. I was horrified to hear Whoopi Goldberg say on The View that this wasn't "rape, rape" What?! I was furious.

  5. Why wasn't an adult guardian with her when she went for this so-called audition? I question many decisions that were made at the time.

I do not support leniency for Polanski. Crimes against a 13 year old cannot be supported.

But what was done to prevent the crime in the first place? Why wasn't an adult present at the time? Would you allow your pre-pubescent daughter to go on an "audition" without being present yourself?

I think quite a few facts still need to emerge.

I'm a mother of a now 19 year old, and I would never in a million years have allowed her to go for an audition without being present myself.

  6. Having sex with a 13 year old girl is rape, period, end of story. Neither talent nor age give you a pass. He is not above the law and shame on those who think he deserves to remain free.

  7. Hollywood, get a grip, indeed! Why do we hold celebrities to a different standard? And don't get me started on sports celebs! Mr. Polanski drugged and raped a child. He should serve time in prison.

  8. I am so with you on this one.
I have a twleve year old (boy, but still) and would be more than livid at just the alcohol and drugs.
As for rape- well what she has described would still have been criminal if it had happened to an adult.

  9. This whole Polanski thing has been making me sick. It's just so wrong. It's just like the OJ Simpson thing - just a different charge. Of course she didn't resist. She's 13 - he's an adult! (at least chronologically)
