Bound Buttonholes

Since I had more construction photos of this coat, I decided- being on a roll and all that :)), another mini tut was in order. Must be tons of great info on this in cyberspace, but here it is for what it's worth;

The Very Incomplete Bound Buttonhole Tutorial

And notice on the side bar of my blog: I have put a picture of the Magnifiers that are glued to my head on a daily basis. Lindsay T used them while constructing a gorgeous, boned, strapless dress- What I Learned, Part 1. I have an extra pair... maybe another giveaway in the future? :)) Seriously, I couldn't sew without them, and I mean it. You may not believe me, but once you've tried these you'll never go back, they are a blessing.

  1. You're right, there are a ton of bound buttonhole resources, but you've covered the back facing part better than any other source I've seen.
    And, love that magnifier. LOL, looks like a jewelers tool.

  2. I agree with Marjii, you've covered the back side very nicely. I started making them this way a while back. I could never get a good finish with handturned and stitched openings. This is a much better way of doing it.

  3. Bound buttonholes are on my to-do list. I have my magnifiers on tonight as I feverishly pickstitch the lining on Annie's dress. Couple the magnifier with an Ott-Lite and I am in business...

  5. I can only imagine how much fun my husband would make of me in that magnifier and yet, I'm keeping it in mind for later. I'm also not yet to the point of doing bound buttonholes, but will remember this resource. Thanks!

  9. You should be getting a kick-back from the magnifier's company for all the advertising you are doing for them! But seriously, now I'm considering getting some. Do those work with glasses?

  10. Thank you for the tutorial! I'm not committing to bound buttonholes anytime soon, but maybe in the far distant future...

  11. Great tut, Birgitte. I can't agree more on the value of these magnifiers, although I haven't figured out a use for the monocle yet. I don't know how I got along without them. Can you believe I am so blind that I use them for giving myself a manicure? Bwaaaa........

  12. Wow, this is the best explanation of a complete bound buttonhole, thank you! My one or two bound buttonholes have been less that satisfactory so thanks for re-inspiring me.
