Well... I know I Said No More Plaid, BUT...

I had 2+ yards left so...

I made this skirt. It was really easy.

I used BWOF 07-2008-127, the same as my Gucci skirt. I altered it into a straight with side slits. The lining is patched because they didn't have enough of the gray charmeuse.

I off-grained the slits according to Carr's book and it worked great. The slits hang straight down. I added drapery weights to the bottom of the two front slits to keep them from flaring out.

I also used her hemming technique.

It's a good skirt and I can probably wear it many ways- including with my CLOGS! These Calvin Klein shoes look great but the heel keeps slipping up. I tried with those pad thingies, but it's not working.

Thanks for all you comments on the jacket and also for DD's well wishes. She is up and running, and she signed with the agent. We're in the process of selecting a headshot from the photoshoot, and I will post it when it's done :))

  3. Never say never ;o) This plaid skirt looks great!!!

How bright! I never include details to store my finished garment. This "loop for hanging" is definitely something I'll consider.

  4. Fantastic suit! I think you secretly LOVE the challenge of working with plaid. Something about protesting too much...

  6. Great outfit!

Good luck with the show biz thing. We went that route with my DD in middle school just short of signing with an agent. Then she entered high school and totally abandoned the spotlights in favor of cheerleading. Phew. I wasn't up for being a stage mom.

  7. Thanks for the info on bias slits! I never knew that. Love the look. I too have an inordinate fondness for clogs. I like in Danskos.

  8. Great outfit! Patching the lining was such a great idea. I must remember that the next time I'm short on lining fabric.
I think I need Roberta Carr's book. I just rented her DVD on couture technique and it was wonderful.

  10. I just cut my first plaid. I am making a vest and wow was it difficult! Not one seam, dart, princess seam is matching. Boy...you are my hero!

  11. I love the fuschia on the slits! I also wondered how you would do this with a sew in interfacing(hem). I've done it with fusible, but not with sew in. Thanks for sharing. It looks fantastic - as does all of your work!
